The 17 characters, explained
Positions 1-3 identify the manufacturer (WMI code), 4-8 describe the vehicle, 9 is a checksum, 10 is the model year, 11 the plant, 12-17 the serial number. Full guide →

What we deliberately don't do
No ownership, title or accident history - that is licensed, privacy-sensitive data. We decode what the VIN itself encodes, and we never store the VINs you check.
Free API
One GET request, JSON out, no key: /api/vin/{vin} - decodes are cached so repeated lookups cost nothing.
